At the start of the new financial year I want you to be running a business fuelled by automation.

Automation is always better than Guesstimation!

If you are running your follow up or client nurture system based on memory or by driving past your client’s house and thinking you might give them a call – that is guesstimation. You need to come into the office each day knowing who you must be calling, who you need to be calling and who you should be contacting that day either by SMS or another touch point. Moving away from the ad hoc approach to who those people may be will help you figure out why you are calling them on a particular day.

Here are the two golden rules that will help you get automation working for you:

  1. Every time you have a conversation with a contact and you update your notes in your CRM system, do not ever close that contact card unless you set 1 future follow up task. Set the follow up around an appropriate time regarding the conversation. If they are not doing anything then look at a 6 month follow up task.

  2. Now you have these scheduled tasks lined up for yourself on particular dates, you must now get into the habit every morning to pull up your CRM list to see who you need to call each day.

Get your lists together. You may prefer to print it or have it open on your phone or desktop. Find the best way for you to access that list each day, to see who are those people to dive into and make them the first calls you make every day.
