Staying focused on your strengths and your skills makes a big difference when meeting with a client. Would a client prefer to meet an agent who is positive and certain of what they have to offer or an agent who thinks someone else can do it better. Which agent are you going to be?

Today I want to focus on the risks involved, the danger and the threat to you playing the comparison game. I have started to notice this growing phenomenon, given that stock is tight and listings can be hard to come by.

Stop prioritising the competition

Spending too much time focussing on what your competition is doing, what they have and what they are offering, rather than focussing on what you’ve got, is having a negative effect on a few of my clients at the moment. They are losing their way in terms of who they show up as at a listing appointment.

I wanted to make a simple analogy for you. If you watch an Olympic runner who is in a 400 meter sprint, the guy who wins is not looking around left or right, to see what is happening behind him or what the competition is doing. He stays firmly focussed in his lane, eye on the prise of what that end outcome needs to be. Being present and in the moment for himself, every step he takes, the way he’s breathing, the way he’s moving his arms, helps him to win the race. That’s what the focus is.

What can you offer to the client?

It’s time for you to go back to what matters to you. Go back to your strengths, what you believe in and focus less on what your competitors are doing. Try find that connection with your clients and how it matches up with what they’re looking for.
