I’ve noticed an alarming pattern…….when we leave messages, send emails or sms’s and we do not get a reply, we can start assuming what that means.
By assuming without KNOWING many agents create a whole load of emotions around it, which is eroding confidence and increasing worry and stress.
It’s time to break free of assumption thinking!

Here is another Coaching on the Go Moment from real estate coach Caroline Bolderston.

Today I wanted to dive into this pattern that is playing out with a lot of agents at the moment.

It’s this whole concept of how your assumptive thinking is completely derailing you from the reality of the situation.

What I mean by this is:

Have you found yourself in a situation where you are waiting to hear back from a prospective listing because you’ve had the listing appointment?
You’ve followed up by email or with some information, and the client is saying:

“Yep, no trouble we will get back to you”.

You might even go so far as keeping control of that and having the ball in your court and you are saying you know, I’ll follow up within two days and you are setting the expectations.

Then when you do that and you don’t hear from them what starts happening, what do you start assuming?

What are you telling yourself, that the experience of them not returning your call means?

Is there a meaning you are attaching to that experience that you’re having of them not responding?

What are you telling yourself?

If you’re like many, many agents that I’ve sort of unpacked this with a bit, you are possibly telling yourself something like:

“Oh no, they’re not replying”.
“They’re probably talking to other agents”
“I’ve probably lost the listing”.

There’s a whole lot of assumptive thinking going on and it’s actually just fictitious.

It’s a made up situation that you have absolutely no validation for or any evidence that that’s the case.

And then what’s happening is because of the assumptions that are playing out. You are then probably changing your natural process, which might be just to continue to follow up.

You might then start to think, they’re going to think I’m desperate.

And the spiral just keeps getting deeper.

It’s time to break free of assumption thinking!

I wanted to raise this with you today and I want to ask you this one question:

If you have some assumptions playing out or If you hear yourself saying:

“What this means is X” and therefore you now start to believe that.

I would love to encourage you just to hit the pause button on the little recording, that’s going around in your head and find out the reality of the situation.

Make the call!

Dive in and see what’s really going. The truth is, and this has been shown to me time and time again, when I dig into this there is evidence everywhere that your assumptions are not actually what’s really going on in the other person’s life.

We need to stop the cycle of assumptive thinking.

It’s time to break the pattern!

I wanted to share this with you and see if you can break the pattern.

See if you get new evidence that it’s actually not even the case, they just happened to be in The Bahamas. And maybe it will shift your meanings that you’re attaching to these experiences which would then change your beliefs entirely and give you your power back.

Take that for a spin see how it goes. I hope this one is beneficial because, to me, It’s a really big one!
